Expecting God To Show Up

So, when you woke up this morning and hopped right out of bed, was your first thought "I wonder how God is going to show up in my life today?"  Probably not.  You were probably wondering, "Is there coffee?"  "How long is it going to take for the shower to heat up?"  "Do I even have clean underwear to put on today?  Man, I need to do laundry."  (That last one was probably just for me)
I know so many times we wake up knowing we have a plan, an agenda, things that have to be done, that we forget to invite God into our lives.  And when we do take that time to talk to Him and acknowledge Him, do we do it on the fly?  When we ask God to be our guide today, when we ask Him to reveal Himself to us today, or even when we ask Him to show up, do we really ask these things expecting?
When we ask we should ask expecting Him to do just that.  It is a faith thing.  When we ask we should ask believing.  We should have our eyes open to the possibilities that God will show up.  It is not always in the big things like a major sunset, or an early sunrise with brilliant colors all around.  It could be in the smile from your grandbaby when they hug your neck and say "Darlin" because they haven't seen you in a while.  It could be in the glass of ice water that your husband brings you simply because it is a hot day and he knew you were busy and thought you could use it.  It could be in a simple wave from your neighbor from across the way.  It isn't always in the big things that we should expect God to show up but we should be looking for Him in the little things as well.
I am amazed at how many times I have met someone for the first time and during the conversation we discover that we both serve and love a living, wonderful, most awesome God.  Where we can lift each other up.  Encourage each other.  Give each other a word from the Lord.  Because it is happening so freguently lately I now get up in the morning expecting the Lord to show up.
I'm expecting Him to show up in the form of a job.  In the form of loved ones coming to know and love Him like I do.  In the form of encouraging words for new friends as well as old.  In the form of wisdom when I need it.
I'm expecting God to show up in my life in every way He will.  I just have to start looking for it and I will see it.
How is God showing up in your life?  Are you expecting Him too?  He said "Behold I stand at the door and knock.  If any man hear my voice , and will open the door, I will come in to him, and sup with him and he with me."  Revelations 3:20
My mom always told a story of my sister when she was little and a plate with a picture of Jesus knocking on a door.  My mom would ask my sister, who was probably around 3 at the time, what Jesus was saying and she would tell her, "Jesus said, Open that door and let me in."
I say to you right now that He is doing just that.  He says, "You say you want me to show up, I am standing at the door waiting for you to open it.  Did you really not expect me to show up?"  I know I do.
Thank you Lord for showing up in my life.  Help me to acknowledge you in every way that you do show up and to expect you to show up even more.
